OK

Alright, it's been awhile since I've posted. I suppose that's a statement to the lack of weather we've been having.

That said, it's been a mild May...typical May/June late night and early morning low clouds burning off if the afternoon for hazy sunshine.

We do have a cold low pressure system on its way, which is very odd for this time of year. All forecasters are watching this one. Some believe the most we'll get is some drizzle...others think we may get some actual rain.

Either way, don't wash the car.

Stormy Thanksgiving Week

Well finally cooler temps and rain are promised. This has been a warm November, and those of us that believe Thanksgiving should be celebrated without air conditioning may just get our wish.

There is low pressure system that will begin having its effect on the area beginning Monday night. This slow moving system will produce periods of rain, off and on, for Tuesday and Wednesday.

Another system may materialize later in the week. Thanksgiving Days is believe to be dry, but Friday and Saturday may bring additional precipitation.

November Rain

No, not just quoting the Guns 'n' Roses tune....we got a little bit of rain the first few days of November. Not a whole lot as my rain gauge only picked up 0.04 in, but at least it cooled the weather down a bit.

Just this past weekend, the foothills just north of us got a pretty good, albeit brief, pounding of rain. At around 3:30 a.m. Sunday morning, the NWS issued a flash flood warning for the Santa Anita burn area. Not a drop in Eagle Rock. So close, yet so far.

Another big story is that of wind. We've been getting more than breezy conditions here with winds out of the north and northwest. More winds will be returning later in the week...along with heat heat heat!

No rain in sight for at least the next few weeks.

Winds

NWS is reporting that 30 mph sustained winds with gusts to 45 mph are expected tonight.

Winds combined with low humidities will place our County Warning Area under a RED FLAG WARNING from 10pm tonight until 10pm Tuesday.

Smoke

Strong smell of smoke this morning in Eagle Rock. The Los Angeles Fire Department sent out a public notice that the smoke has drifted from the Camp Pendleton wildfire. I noticed some LAFD trucks along the 134 this morning investigating on some calls for "reported smoke" in the area.

It seems the smoke has drifted and is trapped by topography.

Storm Dud

Well, yesterday's anticipated rains never came to Eagle Rock. We got a brief shower or two, but not enough to tip the rain gauges...just enough to spot the car.

This coming week's weather is forecast to be warm and sunny. No further rain chances in sight.

Drizzle/Rain

Last night around midnight, we had some low cloudiness and drizzle. Not enough of the wet stuff to even be measurable. The main front is to arrive this afternoon. NWS indicating it's not going to be much rain, but it should at least be measurable.
